SMC Packaging Group Achieves Sustainable Forestry Initiative Certification
March 4, 2009
SMC Packaging Group is proud to announce Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) Certification for our manufacturing locations in Springfield, Missouri (Southern Missouri Containers), Kansas City, Missouri (Arrowhead Containers), and Conway, Arkansas (Wonder State Box). SMC Packaging has always held environmental responsibility as a core philosophy , and is pleased to be recognized by the SFI organization. This certification supports the strong environmental commitment held by SMC Packaging and its customers.
The SFI program is a comprehensive system of principles, objectives and performance measures developed by professional foresters, conservationists, scientists and other stakeholders from outside industry. To earn the use of the SFI-certified procurement (sourcing) label, two-thirds of a company’s packaging raw material must originate from mills with certified wood fiber procurement systems or recycled paper sources. SMC’s certified suppliers make up 93% of our sourced fiber base.
SMC Packaging has long supported manufacturing measures which promote sustainability, recycling, and overall environmental stewardship. We are proud to be part of an industry that sets a high standard with a 75% recovery / recycling rate.
