Order Flow & Inventory Management
SMC Packaging employs a variety of inventory management techniques including KanBan, blanket orders, and other systems-driven replenishment programs such as VMI. Our KIWI Production Control System provides all manufacturing and administrative personnel access to view the production queue in real time. This provides us with the ability to make quick decisions that provide on-time delivery and exemplary service to our customers. Our RF inventory tracking system and lift mounted scanners (developed by our IT group) provides exact WIP and finished goods location and assists in keeping inventory under control.
Regional Distribution Services
We have our own transportation fleet that handles delivery between all of our locations and our customer base. We utilize backhauls from subsidiary plants, suppliers, and customers where possible to attempt to keep freight costs down. Where possible, we negotiate competitive contract rates for full truckload shipments. Our KIWI Production Control System in conjunction with our load management strategies assists us in meeting delivery expectations while minimizing freight costs and maximizing efficiencies.
